Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Jamaica. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Jamaican immigration, but airlines may enforce a 6-month rule — check with your carrier before flying.
Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Jamaica
Immigration officers at Norman Manley and Sangster airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.
Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
You may be asked where you're staying during the immigration interview. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number is enough.
Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Officers can ask how you'll support yourself during your visit. Carry a credit card or bank statement showing enough funds for accommodation, food, and activities — no specific minimum is published.
Recommended
Overstaying is serious
Jamaica takes overstays seriously. Even one day over can result in a fine of up to JMD 10,000 (about €60) and a note on your record. Set a reminder to leave before day 30.
Immigration card
You'll be given an immigration card on the plane or at the immigration hall. Fill it out in black ink. Keep the departure stub — you'll need to hand it back when you leave.
What happens at the border
1
Arrive at Jamaican immigration
At Norman Manley International (Kingston) or Sangster International (Montego Bay), follow signs to 'Immigration' for non-Jamaican passport holders. Join the queue for foreign visitors.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport and completed immigration card (you'll get it on the plane or at the counter). The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with a 30-day entry. Check the stamp says '30 days' before walking away. If it's less, ask politely for the full 30.
4
Collect luggage and clear customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any goods over the duty-free limit. Green channel if nothing to declare.
Enter your arrival date and we'll tell you exactly when you need to leave.
