Portuguese passport holders can get a visa on arrival in Cambodia. You'll handle it at the airport or land border — no need to apply in advance. This is current for 2026.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
Apply for a Cambodia eVisa at evisa.gov.kh. The fee is $30 USD, and processing takes 3 working days. Print the approval letter and bring it with you — immigration will stamp your passport on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond arrival
Your Portuguese passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your date of entry into Cambodia. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Cambodia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket showing you leave Cambodia within your visa validity. A printed itinerary or digital booking on your phone works — just have it ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter from your host ready. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, a printed booking confirmation or a screenshot on your phone is enough.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least $500 USD in cash or have a bank statement showing available funds. Immigration may ask to see it, especially if you arrive without a return ticket.Recommended
Cash only for visa on arrival
The visa on arrival counter only accepts cash in US dollars. There are no ATMs before immigration. Bring $30–$35 in small bills. If you don't have the exact amount, they may not have change.
eSIM saves time at the airport
Instead of queuing for a local SIM at the airport, install an Airalo eSIM before you fly. It activates the moment you land — you'll have data for Grab, maps, and translation immediately.

What happens at the border

1
Fill out the arrival card and visa application
On the plane or at the airport, you'll get an arrival card and a visa application form. Fill them out in capital letters. Have your passport number and flight details ready.
2
Queue at the Visa on Arrival counter
At Phnom Penh or Siem Reap airports, look for the 'Visa on Arrival' counter before immigration. Hand over your passport, completed form, and a passport photo. Pay the fee in cash (USD).
3
Wait for processing
Processing takes about 5–15 minutes. They'll call your name or hand you back your passport with the visa sticker inside.
4
Proceed to immigration
Go to the immigration desk with your passport (now with visa), arrival card, and boarding pass. They'll stamp you in. Keep the departure card they give you — you'll need it when leaving.

Frequently asked questions

The standard tourist visa on arrival costs $30 USD. Some land borders may charge a small extra 'processing fee' — always ask for a receipt. Have exact change in small bills if possible.
No, the visa on arrival is not extendable. If you want to stay longer than 30 days, you'll need to leave the country and re-enter, or apply for a different visa type (like an ordinary visa) before you travel.
Most major land borders (like Poipet from Thailand, or Bavet from Vietnam) offer visa on arrival for Portuguese passport holders. The process is similar — fill out a form, pay $30, wait a few minutes. Some smaller crossings may not offer it, so check ahead.
Officially yes, but in practice many counters will take your photo on the spot for an extra $1–$2. To avoid delays, bring one recent passport photo with you.
Yes, Portugal is eligible for Cambodia's e-visa. It costs around $36 and takes 3 business days to process. You apply online, get a PDF, and show it at immigration. It's a good option if you want to skip the queue at the airport.
Overstay is fined at $10 per day, capped at $500. You pay at the airport immigration office before departure. It's not a criminal issue, but avoid it — it's expensive and can cause delays.
No, departure tax is included in your airline ticket. You don't need to pay anything extra when leaving Cambodia.
