Portuguese passport holders need an eVisa to enter Nigeria in 2026. The eVisa is single-entry, so you must apply online before you travel. Processing can take a few days, so plan ahead.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for a Nigeria eVisa at the Nigeria Immigration Service portal before you travel. The online form asks for your passport details, travel dates, and a recent photo. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email — print it and carry it with you.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for 6 months beyond your intended stay
Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity from your planned departure date from Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Blank pages aren't strictly required, but having at least one helps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Nigeria
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja airports routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. A flight booking out of Nigeria within your visa validity is enough — they don't need a specific airline. If you're flying in on a one-way ticket, expect extra questions.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria ready. Immigration may ask where you're staying on arrival. A simple booking confirmation with your name and dates works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash to cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but if they do, showing $500–$1,000 USD equivalent in cash or a statement with a few thousand Naira equivalent is sufficient.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must carry your yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) when entering Nigeria. Immigration officers can and do ask for it. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport.
eVisa is single-entry only
The eVisa allows one entry. If you leave Nigeria (even for a day trip), you'll need a new eVisa to return. Plan your itinerary accordingly.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Nigeria Immigration Service portal (portal.immigration.gov.ng). Create an account, fill in the application, upload your passport photo and passport data page, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval email with a PDF.
2
Print or save your eVisa approval
Once approved, print a copy and also save the PDF on your phone. You'll need it at check-in and at immigration in Lagos or Abuja.
3
Arrive at the airport in Nigeria
At Lagos (LOS) or Abuja (ABV), follow signs to 'eVisa' counters. Present your passport, eVisa approval, and return ticket. The officer will take your fingerprints and a photo, then stamp you in. Expect 15–30 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from the carousel and proceed to customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
