Visa on arrival is straightforward
Portuguese passport holders have a smooth experience — no pre-approval needed. Just show up with the right documents and cash. The whole process at Muscat airport usually takes 15–30 minutes.
Keep your passport valid for 6+ months
This is strictly enforced. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry. Renew before you travel.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Muscat or Salalah airport
Follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' counters before immigration. You'll see a separate queue — join it, fill out a short form (name, passport number, flight), and pay the fee.
2
Present documents at the counter
Hand over your passport, completed form, and payment. The officer will process your visa and stamp your passport. Keep the receipt.
3
Proceed to immigration
After getting your visa stamp, walk to the immigration desks. Show your passport (with the new visa) and your boarding pass. You'll be asked your purpose of visit and where you're staying.
4
Collect luggage and exit
Once through immigration, grab your bags from the carousel and walk through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). You're in Oman.

Frequently asked questions

The standard visa on arrival is valid for 30 days from the date of issue. You can extend it once for another 30 days by visiting the Royal Oman Police immigration office in Muscat or Salalah — cost is about 20 OMR.
Yes, you can extend it once for an additional 30 days. Go to the nearest Royal Oman Police immigration office before your visa expires. Bring your passport, the original visa, and 20 OMR in cash.
Overstay fines are 10 OMR per day (about €24). Pay at the airport immigration office before departure. Avoid overstaying — it can also affect future visits.
No, for a tourist visa on arrival you don't need a sponsor. Just your passport, onward ticket, and the fee. If you're visiting family or for business, an invitation can help but isn't mandatory.
Yes, the Hatta border crossing (between Dubai and Oman) processes visa on arrival for Portuguese passport holders. Same requirements — passport validity, onward ticket, and fee. The queue can be longer than at airports.
It's a single-entry visa. If you leave Oman (even to the UAE for a day trip), you'll need a new visa to re-enter. For multiple entries, apply for an e-visa before travel.
