Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Pakistan. Apply at the official Pakistan eVisa portal — processing takes 3–5 business days for most nationalities. The visa is single-entry and valid for 90 days from issue.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid on arrival
Your Portuguese passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay in Pakistan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Pakistani airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or onward ticket ready — they may deny entry without it.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
You may be asked to show where you're staying. A hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Pakistan works. Keep a copy handy — it's not always checked, but better to have it.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration can ask for evidence of sufficient funds. A bank statement or credit card showing at least $500 USD equivalent is usually enough. I've never been asked, but I always carry a printout.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no visa on arrival
Portuguese passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Pakistan. You must apply and receive your eVisa before you fly. Airlines will check this at check-in.
Keep digital and printed copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, passport scan, return ticket, and hotel booking both on your phone and as printed backups. Power cuts or phone issues can happen — a paper copy is your safety net.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visa.nadra.gov.pk, create an account, fill in your personal and travel details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $60–$80 depending on nationality) and submit. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get an email with a PDF of your eVisa. Print at least one copy — you'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Pakistan.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Pack your printed eVisa, passport, return ticket, hotel booking confirmation, and travel insurance documents in your carry-on. Keep a digital backup on your phone.
4
Arrive at a Pakistani airport
You'll land at one of the main international airports: Karachi (KHI), Lahore (LHE), Islamabad (ISB), or Sialkot (SKT). Follow signs to 'Foreign Passports' immigration counters. Hand over your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket if asked. The officer will stamp you in — usually takes 2–5 minutes.
