Portuguese passport holders need an eVisa to enter Russia in 2025. The eVisa is valid for a single entry and allows stays of up to 16 days. You must apply online before you travel.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply for an eVisa before travel
You must apply for a Russian eVisa at the official portal before departure. The eVisa allows a single entry for up to 16 days. Processing usually takes up to 4 calendar days.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Portuguese passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Russia. No minimum validity beyond departure is required by Russian law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Russia
Immigration officers at Russian airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or digital confirmation ready showing your departure within the eVisa's 16-day validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Russian border officials may request proof of where you'll stay. A hotel confirmation or a notarized invitation from a host (if staying privately) covers this. Keep a copy on your phone or printed.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show sufficient money for your stay
You may be asked to show you have enough funds for your trip. A bank statement or credit card showing access to at least 500 EUR per day of stay is a safe benchmark.Recommended
eVisa is single-entry only
You cannot leave and re-enter Russia on the same eVisa. If you plan to visit neighboring countries, you'll need a multiple-entry visa.
Register your stay within 7 days
Your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office. If you're staying in a private apartment, make sure the host does this — it's their responsibility.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for eVisa
Go to the official Russian eVisa website (evisa.kdmid.ru) and fill out the application. Upload a recent passport photo and your passport data page. Pay the fee (around $40 USD) and submit. Processing usually takes 4 calendar days.
2
Receive eVisa Approval
You'll get an email with your eVisa approval. Print it or save a copy on your phone. The eVisa is linked to your passport number — you don't need a physical sticker.
3
Book Travel and Accommodation
Book your return flight and first night's accommodation. Keep confirmations accessible — you'll need them at passport control.
4
Arrive in Russia
At the airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Present your passport, eVisa (printed or digital), and return ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly.
5
Register Your Stay
Within 7 days of arrival, your hotel or host must register you with the local migration office. If you're in a private apartment, the host handles this. You don't need to do anything — just confirm it's done.

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 4 calendar days. Apply at least a week before your trip to be safe. The fee is around $40 USD, but check the official site for current prices.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. You must leave within 16 days of entry. If you need to stay longer, you'll need a different visa type (e.g., tourist visa) before you travel.
Your hotel or host must register you within 7 days. You don't need to go to a police station yourself — just confirm with your accommodation that they've done it.
You won't be allowed to board your flight. Renew your passport before applying for the eVisa. The 6 months are counted from your entry date, not your departure date.
No, the eVisa is only valid at specific entry points: major airports (Moscow Sheremetyevo, Domodedovo, Vnukovo, St. Petersburg Pulkovo, etc.), some seaports, and land crossings. Check the official list before you travel.
Overstaying can result in a fine, deportation, and a ban from re-entering Russia for up to 5 years. Leave before your 16 days are up.
It's not officially required for eVisa holders, but having a credit card or some cash (rubles or dollars) is a good idea. Immigration rarely asks, but it's better to be prepared.
