Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in. If your passport expires within 30 days of entry, you may be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Azerbaijan
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. If you're staying with friends, their address and phone number should be written down.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration can ask for proof you have enough money for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card. There's no fixed minimum, but having around $50–$100 per day in accessible funds is a safe bet.Recommended
No visa needed — just show up
Qatari passport holders get 30 days visa-free in Azerbaijan. No application, no fee, no paperwork. Just make sure your passport is valid for 6+ months from your entry date.
Overstaying is expensive
The 30-day limit is strict. Overstay even by a day and you'll face fines starting at 300 AZN (around $175 USD). Longer overstays can lead to a ban from re-entering Azerbaijan.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
At Heydar Aliyev International Airport in Baku or any land border crossing, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport ready.
2
Hand over your passport
The officer will check your passport validity and may ask for your return ticket or hotel address. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get your entry stamp
You'll receive a stamp in your passport with the date of entry. The 30-day stay starts from that day. No visa sticker or fee is involved.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, pick up your bags and walk through customs. Green channel if nothing to declare, red channel if you have goods over the duty-free limit.
