Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Cameroon eVisa at the official portal before departure. Processing takes 3–5 business days, so submit at least a week ahead. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport to show at immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Cameroon. No specific 6-month validity rule applies, but airlines may enforce their own policy — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for entry
Immigration officers at Yaoundé and Douala airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmations or an invitation letter from your host in Cameroon can speed up the immigration process. Officers may ask for it if you look uncertain about where you're staying.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Have bank statements or a credit card showing you can support yourself during your stay. No specific minimum amount is published, but around $100–$200 per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
Cameroon requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 9 months old. You'll need the International Certificate of Vaccination (yellow card) — immigration may ask for it when you land. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
Currency and cash
Cameroon uses the Central African CFA franc (XAF). Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and some restaurants in Yaoundé and Douala, but cash is king everywhere else. Bring euros or US dollars to exchange — ATMs are unreliable outside big cities.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Cameroon eVisa website (evisacameroon.com). Fill in your personal and travel details, upload a passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online with a credit or debit card.
2
Wait for approval
Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive the eVisa by email as a PDF. Check your spam folder if it doesn't arrive.
3
Print or save the eVisa
Print a paper copy and also save the PDF on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Cameroon.
4
Arrive at Yaoundé or Douala airport
Most international flights land at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport or Douala International Airport. Go to the immigration counter, present your passport, eVisa, and return ticket. They'll stamp you in.
