Qatari passport holders need a visa to enter Denmark. You must apply at the Danish embassy or consulate before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival or e-visa option. Plan ahead, as processing can take several weeks.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Short-stay visa application
Apply before travel
Qatari passport holders need a Schengen visa for Denmark. Apply at the Danish Immigration Service portal — processing takes at least 15 calendar days. Book your appointment early; slots fill up weeks ahead in peak season.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area. It also needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen
Immigration at Copenhagen Airport checks for a confirmed onward ticket out of the Schengen zone. A flight to Doha or any non-Schengen destination works. They also verify your ticket covers the full duration of your visa.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel confirmation, hostel booking, or a signed invitation from a host in Denmark ready. The visa officer may ask to see it at the border, though it's not always checked.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry bank statements or a credit card showing at least €50 per day of your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but the visa application requires it — keep a copy in your carry-on.Recommended
Apply well in advance
Visa processing can take 15–45 days, and appointments may be scarce during peak travel seasons (summer, holidays). Start your application at least 6 weeks before your trip.
Schengen rules apply
Denmark is part of the Schengen Area. Your visa allows you to travel to all Schengen countries for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your first point of entry should be Denmark, or you must spend the most time there.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Gather all required documents: valid passport, completed application form, photos, travel insurance, flight and hotel bookings, bank statements, and any supporting letters. Make copies of everything.
2
Book an appointment
Schedule an appointment at the Danish embassy in Doha or the nearest visa application centre (VFS Global or similar). Appointments can fill up weeks ahead, so book early.
3
Attend the visa interview
Go to your appointment with all original documents and photocopies. You'll submit your application, provide biometrics (fingerprints and photo), and pay the fee. The interview is usually brief — answer honestly.
4
Wait for processing
Processing typically takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 30 or even 45 days during peak seasons. Track your application online if available.
5
Collect your passport
Once approved, collect your passport with the visa sticker. Check that all details (name, dates, validity) are correct before leaving the centre.
6
Arrive in Denmark
At Copenhagen Airport or any Schengen entry point, present your passport with the visa. Be ready to show return ticket, accommodation proof, and insurance if asked. The officer may ask about your itinerary — have it clear in mind.

Frequently asked questions

If you are transiting through a Danish airport and staying in the international transit area without entering the Schengen zone, you generally do not need a visa. However, if you need to pass through passport control (e.g., to change terminals or if your layover is long), you will need a Schengen visa. Check with your airline.
Standard processing is 15 calendar days, but it can take up to 30 or 45 days if additional checks are needed. Apply at least 4–6 weeks before your planned travel.
The Schengen visa fee for adults is €80 (about 320 QAR). Children aged 6–12 pay €40 (about 160 QAR). Fees are subject to change — check the embassy website for the latest.
Extensions are only granted in exceptional circumstances, such as a medical emergency or force majeure. You cannot extend for tourism. You must leave before your visa expires.
If you hold a valid residence permit from any Schengen state, you can travel to Denmark without a separate visa for stays up to 90 days. Just carry your permit and passport.
Immigration officers can ask for proof of sufficient funds. It's wise to have bank statements, a credit card, or cash (around €50–100 per day) available. Not everyone is asked, but it's better to be prepared.
You fill out the application form online, but you must still attend an in-person appointment at the embassy or visa centre to submit documents and give biometrics. There is no fully online visa.
