Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay in Malta. Schengen rules do not require 6 months beyond departure, but some airlines enforce it — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Malta International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy showing your departure from the Schengen zone within your visa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a confirmed hotel reservation or a signed invitation letter from your host in Malta. Officers may ask to see it during the visa interview or at border control.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statements or cash
Show you have at least €50 per day for your stay. A recent bank statement, credit card, or cash works — officers rarely ask but can request it.Recommended
Apply early — slots fill up
Visa appointments at VFS Global in Doha can be booked weeks in advance, especially during summer and holidays. Book as soon as you know your travel dates.
Schengen area rules apply
A Malta visa lets you travel to all 27 Schengen countries (France, Germany, Italy, etc.) for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your first entry must be to Malta.

What happens at the border

1
Submit visa application
Apply at the Malta visa application centre in Doha (VFS Global). Book an appointment online, bring all documents, pay the fee (€80 for adults, €40 for children 6–12, free for under 6). Processing takes about 15 calendar days.
2
Wait for visa decision
Your passport will be held during processing. You'll get a notification when it's ready to collect or couriered back. Do not book non-refundable flights until you have the visa.
3
Arrive in Malta
At Malta International Airport (MLA), join the 'All Passports' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa sticker. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Answer clearly — they're checking you're a genuine tourist.
4
Get your passport stamped
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed (usually the full visa validity). Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
