Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into Chad. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required

Required for entry
Immigration officers in N'Djamena ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a digital version ready on your phone. Airlines also check this before issuing a boarding pass.Required
Proof of accommodation
Recommended to carry
Hotel booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Chad. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it speeds up the process if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Recommended to carry
Carry enough cash (USD or EUR) for your stay — ATMs are scarce outside N'Djamena. A bank statement or credit card showing available funds works as backup.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine required

Cash is king in Chad
ATMs are rare outside N'Djamena. Bring enough CFA francs (XAF) in cash for your stay. Credit cards are accepted only at major hotels.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official Chad e-visa website, fill in your details, upload a passport photo and a copy of your passport bio page, and pay the fee (around $100–$150 depending on processing speed). Processing usually takes 3–7 business days.
2
Print or save your e-visa approval
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival.
3
Arrive at N'Djamena International Airport
After landing, head to immigration. Present your passport, e-visa approval, return ticket, and accommodation proof. You'll be asked a few questions (purpose of visit, where you're staying). The officer stamps your passport — keep the entry slip safe.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. Declare any large sums of cash or restricted items. Then you're free to exit.
