Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Armenia. Border officers at Zvartnots Airport check this carefully. If your passport expires within 6 months, you may still enter as long as it covers your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready. This applies even for visa-free stays up to 180 days.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it speeds things up if they do. Airbnb bookings work fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry enough cash or a credit card to cover your stay. The official requirement is about 50,000 AMD per day (roughly $130). Officers almost never ask for this, but it's good to have a bank statement or card handy.Recommended
180 days per calendar year
The 180-day visa-free stay is counted per calendar year, not per entry. If you leave and re-enter, the total days you've spent in Armenia that year cannot exceed 180.
Overstaying is costly
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine of about 50,000 AMD (~$125) and a possible entry ban. Set a reminder to leave before your 180 days are up.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Yerevan Zvartnots Airport (or land border)
Most visitors fly into Zvartnots Airport (EVN). After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' — there are separate queues for Armenian citizens and foreigners. Join the 'Foreigners' line.
2
Present your passport at the immigration counter
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity, may ask about your stay duration and purpose. Answer briefly: 'tourism' or 'visiting friends'. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and permitted stay.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare. Customs is generally straightforward.
