Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. The process takes about 3 working days, and the visa is valid for 30 days single entry. Print the approval email and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Romanian passport needs at least 3 months validity beyond your intended departure date from Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in, so verify before you fly.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Baku Heydar Aliyev Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
You may be asked to show a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Azerbaijan. Keep a printed confirmation or digital copy accessible.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Border officers can request evidence of sufficient funds for your stay. A recent bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them.Recommended
eVisa is tied to your passport number
If you renew your passport after getting the eVisa, the visa becomes invalid. You'd need to reapply with the new passport details.
Keep a printed copy of your eVisa
Some airlines check for the eVisa at check-in. A digital copy on your phone might not be accepted. Print it and keep it with your passport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Azerbaijan eVisa portal at evisa.gov.az. Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo, and pay the fee (around $20-25 USD). Processing takes about 3 business days. You'll receive the visa by email as a PDF.
2
Print or save the eVisa
Print a paper copy of the eVisa and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and on arrival in Azerbaijan.
3
Arrive at Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku
Most flights from Romania land at Baku's main airport. After deplaning, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport — that's your entry.
4
Present documents at immigration
Hand over your passport and eVisa. The officer may ask about your accommodation and return flight. Answer briefly and honestly. The whole process usually takes 2-5 minutes.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. There's nothing special to declare for personal items. Exit into the arrivals hall.
