Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay in Chile
Your Romanian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Chile. Immigration officers at Santiago (SCL) check this at the desk — they do not enforce a 6-month validity rule for Romanians.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Chile
Immigration at Santiago (SCL) regularly asks for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Officers at SCL sometimes ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready. Immigration may ask to see you have enough money — roughly $50–$100 USD per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Chile requires your passport to be valid for at least 6 months from your entry date. Airlines check this before boarding — if you're short, you won't fly.
No visa needed, but have documents ready
You don't need a visa, but immigration may ask for your return ticket and accommodation. Keep screenshots on your phone to speed things up.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Chilean airport
When you land at Santiago (SCL) or any other international airport, follow signs to 'Extranjería' or 'Migraciones'. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport and typically grant 90 days.
2
Present documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and accommodation address. Answer clearly. They rarely ask for proof of funds, but have a bank statement or credit card handy just in case.
3
Receive entry stamp
Once approved, you'll get an entry stamp with the date and allowed stay. Check it says 90 days. If it's less, ask politely for clarification. Keep the stamp legible — you'll need it when leaving.

It's not routinely required, but immigration officers can ask. Have a credit card or bank statement ready just in case. No specific amount is set.
