Apply early — don't rely on express
Even though express processing exists (5 hours), technical glitches or payment issues can cause delays. Apply at least a week before your flight. The standard fee is $260, but if you're in a rush, the $442 express option is available — just don't count on it being instant.
Yellow fever certificate is mandatory
Ghana enforces the yellow fever vaccination requirement strictly. If you arrive without a valid certificate, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport — which can be a hassle and may not be accepted by all airlines. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before travel and carry the certificate with your passport.
No visa on arrival — eVisa only
Romanian citizens cannot get a visa on arrival in Ghana. The eVisa is the only option. Make sure you have the printed eVisa with you — immigration officers will ask to see it before stamping your passport.

What happens at the border

1
Apply online for the eVisa
Go to https://evisa.immigration.gov.gh/ and create an account. Fill in your personal details, passport info, and travel plans. Upload your photo and supporting documents. Double-check everything before submitting — mistakes cause delays.
2
Pay the visa fee
Choose standard ($260) or express ($442) processing. Pay with a credit or debit card. You'll get a confirmation email with a reference number. Save this — you'll need it to track your application.
3
Receive your eVisa by email
Standard processing takes up to 96 hours; express takes about 5 hours. You'll receive an approved eVisa as a PDF. Print it out — you'll need a physical copy to show at the airport and at Ghanaian immigration.
4
Arrive at Kotoka International Airport (Accra)
When you land, head to the immigration desk. Present your passport, printed eVisa, and yellow fever certificate. The officer will check your details, stamp your passport, and let you through. Have your return ticket and accommodation details handy in case they ask.

Frequently asked questions

Standard processing takes up to 96 hours (4 days), and express processing takes about 5 hours. It's best to apply at least a week before your trip to account for any delays.
No. Ghana does not offer visa-on-arrival for Romanian passport holders. You must obtain an eVisa before you travel. The eVisa is issued electronically, so you don't need to visit an embassy.
The standard eVisa costs $260 USD and is processed within 96 hours. The express option costs $442 USD and is processed within 5 hours. Fees are non-refundable, even if your application is rejected.
Yes. Ghana requires a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate for all travellers over 1 year old. You must be vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival. Without the certificate, you may be refused entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (which can be costly and inconvenient).
The eVisa typically allows a stay of up to 30 days. If you need to stay longer, you must apply for an extension at the Ghana Immigration Service headquarters in Accra before your visa expires. Extensions are not guaranteed and must be requested in person.
No, the eVisa is not extendable. If you need to stay longer than the allowed period, you must leave the country and apply for a new visa. Overstaying can result in fines or deportation.
If your application is rejected, you'll receive an email explaining the reason. The fee is non-refundable. You can reapply with corrected information, but you'll need to pay the fee again. Common reasons for rejection include incomplete forms, poor photo quality, or passport validity issues.
