Romanian passport holders can enter Liechtenstein without a visa for short stays. As Liechtenstein is part of the Schengen Area, you can stay up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This rule has been in place since 2025 and remains unchanged.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Romanian passport must be valid for your entire stay in Liechtenstein. Since Liechtenstein is in the Schengen zone, you get 90 days within any 180-day period across all Schengen countries — not just Liechtenstein. Airlines at departure may ask to see your passport validity.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Schengen entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within your 90-day visa-free limit. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines sometimes check this at check-in too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a letter from your host in Liechtenstein. Officers at the border may ask where you're staying — having a printed booking saves time and avoids questions.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card ready. Schengen rules say you need about €100 per day of stay, but in practice Liechtenstein rarely enforces a fixed amount. A recent statement showing a few hundred euros is usually enough.Recommended
No airport in Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein has no commercial airport. You'll fly into Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, then take a train (about 1.5 hours) or drive to Liechtenstein. Swiss immigration handles your Schengen entry.
Schengen 90/180-day rule applies
Your 90-day visa-free stay is for the entire Schengen Area, not just Liechtenstein. If you've already spent time in other Schengen countries, that counts toward your limit. Use the Schengen calculator to track your days.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Liechtenstein does not have its own airport. You'll fly into Zurich Airport (ZRH) in Switzerland, then take a train or drive to Liechtenstein. At Zurich Airport, you clear Swiss immigration (which also handles Schengen entry). Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready.
2
Present your documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask how long you're staying, where you're staying, and your purpose of visit. Answer clearly. They may also ask for proof of funds or onward travel.
3
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer stamps your passport with the entry date. This starts your 90-day Schengen clock. Keep the stamp visible — you'll need it when you leave.
4
Exit Schengen Area
When you leave Liechtenstein (usually via Switzerland), you'll go through Swiss immigration again. They'll stamp your passport with the exit date. Make sure you haven't overstayed your 90 days.
