Visa on arrival
Visa on arrival at Windhoek International Airport
Get your visa on arrival at Hosea Kutako International Airport. Have 1,000 NAD (about $55 USD) in cash for the visa fee — the immigration counter does not accept cards. The visa is valid for up to 90 days and is single entry.Required
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Namibia. At least two blank pages are required for entry and exit stamps.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Windhoek will ask to see a confirmed onward ticket out of Namibia. This applies even if you're continuing overland to another country — have a bus or flight booking ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in Namibia. Immigration may ask for it during the visa-on-arrival process.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry at least 2,000 NAD (about $110 USD) in cash or have a bank statement showing sufficient funds. Immigration officers occasionally ask for proof of financial means.Recommended
Cash only at visa desk
The visa-on-arrival fee must be paid in cash — Namibian dollars or South African rand. No credit cards, no ATMs nearby. Bring enough to cover the fee (around NAD 800–1,200) plus any unexpected costs.
Visa on arrival is straightforward
The process at Windhoek airport usually takes 15–30 minutes. Have your documents ready and cash in hand. If you're arriving at a land border, expect similar processing times.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at immigration
At Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International Airport (or any land border), follow signs to 'Visa on Arrival' or 'Immigration'. Join the queue — there's usually a separate counter for visa-on-arrival applicants.
2
Present documents and pay
Hand over your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. The officer will process your visa and tell you the fee. Pay in cash (NAD or ZAR). You'll get a receipt and a visa sticker in your passport.
3
Proceed to passport control
After getting the visa, go to the main passport control queue. The officer will stamp you in. Keep the visa sticker safe — you'll need it when leaving.

Frequently asked questions

The fee is typically between NAD 800 and NAD 1,200 for a single-entry tourist visa. It must be paid in cash — Namibian dollars or South African rand are accepted. Credit cards are not accepted at the visa desk.
The visa on arrival usually grants a stay of up to 90 days. The exact duration is at the discretion of the immigration officer. Extensions are possible but not guaranteed — you'd need to visit the Ministry of Home Affairs in Windhoek.
Extensions are possible but not automatic. You must apply at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security in Windhoek before your current visa expires. There's a fee, and approval is not guaranteed. It's easier to plan your trip within the initial 90 days.
The same visa-on-arrival policy applies at major land border crossings (e.g., from South Africa, Botswana, Zambia). The process is similar — present your passport, return ticket, and pay the fee in cash. Some smaller crossings may not have a visa desk, so stick to official border posts.
Yellow fever vaccination is required if you're arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Romania is not a risk country, so you generally don't need it unless you've recently traveled to an endemic area. Check the latest WHO guidelines before travel.
No. The visa on arrival is strictly for tourism, business meetings, or short visits. Any paid work, volunteering, or long-term study requires a separate work or study visa obtained before arrival.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined, detained, or banned from re-entering Namibia. The fine is typically around NAD 500–1,000 per day overstayed, payable at immigration when you leave. Avoid it by keeping track of your entry stamp date.
