Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Ukraine. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by law, but airlines sometimes enforce a 3-month rule — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ukraine
Immigration officers at Kyiv Boryspil and Lviv airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing you leave within the 90-day visa-free period.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Ukraine does not publish a fixed daily amount, but carrying around $50–$100 USD per day in cash or a credit card statement helps. ATMs work in major cities, but cash is king in smaller towns.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you enter Ukraine, not the day you leave. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry.
Keep a digital copy of your documents
Save photos of your passport, return ticket, and accommodation booking on your phone and in cloud storage. If your documents are lost or stolen, this makes replacement much easier.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Ukrainian border
At any land border crossing or airport (Kyiv Boryspil, Lviv, Odesa), join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will check your passport, stamp it, and you're through. Expect 5-15 minutes per person.
2
Present documents
Hand over your passport. If asked, show your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer basic questions like purpose of visit (tourism) and length of stay. No visa is needed, so no additional forms.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date. Check the stamp is legible before walking away. Keep the stamp safe — you'll need it for exit control.
4
Exit procedure
When leaving Ukraine, go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue again. Hand over your passport. The officer will stamp the exit. No additional documents are required unless you overstayed.
