Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before travel. The eVisa is mandatory for Romanian passport holders — you cannot get a visa on arrival. Processing usually takes 2-5 business days, so apply at least a week before your flight.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Romanian passport must be valid for at least the entire period you plan to stay in Uganda. Immigration officers at Entebbe check this carefully — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied entry.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration at Entebbe Airport routinely asks for a return or onward ticket. Airlines also check this before boarding — without one, you may be refused check-in. Have a printed or digital copy ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration officers may ask where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host ready. A simple booking confirmation on your phone works fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers may ask for proof of sufficient funds for your stay. Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have at least $300–$500 available. Not always checked, but better to have it.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate to enter Uganda. If you don't have it, you may be vaccinated at the airport (and charged) or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before travel.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa approval, passport, and travel insurance on your phone and email. If you lose your passport, these copies make replacement much easier.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, fill in your personal and travel details, upload a passport photo and your passport data page, and pay the fee (around $50 USD for a single-entry tourist visa). Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email — print it or save it on your phone.
2
Prepare your documents for travel
Before you leave, gather: your eVisa approval, passport (valid 6+ months), return ticket, first night accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep digital copies on your phone and a printed backup in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (or land border)
At immigration, present your passport and eVisa approval. The officer will check your documents, take your fingerprints, and stamp you in. The process usually takes 10–20 minutes. If arriving at a land border (e.g., Busia or Katuna), the same rules apply — show your eVisa and passport.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After clearing immigration, head to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to go. Keep your eVisa approval and passport handy in case of spot checks.

Yes, you can apply for an extension at the Immigration Headquarters in Kampala. Extensions are usually granted for up to 90 days. The cost is around $50 USD. Start the process before your current visa expires.
