Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your departure date from Belgium
Your passport needs at least 3 months of validity after your planned exit from the Schengen zone. The passport must have been issued within the last 10 years. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Schengen area
Immigration officers at Belgian airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to a non-Schengen country. A bus or train ticket to another Schengen country won't satisfy this — they want to see you leave the zone.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a signed letter from your host with their address and contact info. Border officers rarely ask for it for short stays, but if they do and you have nothing, you'll get pulled aside for extra questioning.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or a credit card with a visible limit. Belgium doesn't publish a fixed amount, but €50–€100 per day of stay is a safe benchmark. Officers may ask how you'll support yourself — a quick answer with a bank statement works.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Belgium is part of the Schengen zone. Your 90-day visa-free limit applies to all 27 Schengen countries combined. Track your days carefully — use the Schengen calculator app.
Border officers can still refuse entry
Even without a visa, you can be refused entry if you can't show a return ticket, proof of accommodation, or sufficient funds. Always carry printed or digital copies of these documents.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Brussels Airport or other Schengen entry point
You'll go through passport control. Join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation ready. The officer will check your passport, may ask your purpose of visit, and stamp you in. The whole process usually takes 1-2 minutes.
2
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, head to baggage claim, then customs. Green channel for nothing to declare. If you have goods over €430 or cash over €10,000, use the red channel.
