Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire 14-day stay. Hong Kong does not require 6 months of validity beyond departure, but your airline might enforce it — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight ready — they check this at the counter before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter from your host. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it on hand avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to enough cash or a credit card to cover your 14-day trip. Immigration may ask to see proof of funds, especially if you arrive without a return ticket.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you enter Hong Kong. Airlines check this before boarding, and immigration checks on arrival. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied travel.
Keep your arrival card safe
The small white card you fill out on the plane has a tear-off portion that immigration will return to you. Keep it with your passport — you'll need to hand it back when you leave Hong Kong.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before departure
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book a return/onward ticket and your first night's accommodation. Print or screenshot confirmations and save them on your phone.
2
Fill out the arrival card on the plane
You'll receive a small white arrival/departure card from the flight crew. Fill it out in block capitals with your passport details, flight number, and hotel address. Keep it with your passport.
3
Queue at immigration at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and join the queue for 'Foreign Passports' (not Hong Kong residents). Have your passport, completed arrival card, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your documents, take a fingerprint scan (usually index fingers), and stamp your passport. The whole process takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Customs checks are random but quick.
