Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Serbian passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Luxembourg. Schengen rules do not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but some airlines may still ask for it — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen area
Immigration officers at Luxembourg entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone within 90 days. Have a printed or digital copy ready — budget airlines sometimes check this at check-in too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Keep a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host with their address and contact details. Officers rarely ask for it, but having it avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to around €50–€100 per day of your stay. Luxembourg doesn't enforce a fixed minimum, but being able to show funds speeds things up if questioned.Recommended
Schengen Area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay covers all 27 Schengen countries combined. If you spend 30 days in France, then 30 in Germany, you only have 30 days left for Luxembourg or any other Schengen country. Track your days carefully.
Overstaying can get you banned
Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine and a re-entry ban of up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Luxembourg Airport (LUX)
After landing, follow signs to 'Border Control' for non-EU passengers. There are separate queues for EU and non-EU citizens. Have your passport and any supporting documents ready.
2
Present your passport to the officer
Hand over your passport. The officer will check your validity, look for blank pages, and may ask about your trip purpose, length of stay, and accommodation. Answer clearly and honestly.
3
Get your entry stamp
If approved, the officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the number of days allowed (usually 90). Check the stamp before leaving the counter.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. You're free to enter Luxembourg. Keep your documents handy for the duration of your stay.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 90-day visa-free stay is for tourism, business meetings, and family visits only. You cannot take up employment or freelance work. For work, you need a work visa or permit arranged by your employer.
You cannot extend the 90-day visa-free stay. To stay longer, you must apply for a long-stay visa (type D) or a residence permit from the Luxembourg immigration office (Direction de l'Immigration) before your 90 days expire. Overstaying can lead to fines and a ban.
If you stay less than 90 days, no registration is required. If you plan to stay longer (e.g., for work or study), you must register with the commune (municipality) where you live within 8 days of arrival. They'll issue a certificate of registration.
You must have a valid passport for the entire duration of your stay. If it expires, you'll be considered illegally present. Renew your passport at the Serbian embassy in Brussels or the consulate in Luxembourg before it expires.
Yes. Luxembourg is part of the Schengen Area. You can fly into Paris, Frankfurt, or Amsterdam and then travel to Luxembourg. The 90-day limit applies to the entire Schengen Area, not just Luxembourg.
No. Serbian passport holders do not need a visa for short stays, so there is no visa on arrival. You simply present your passport at border control.
If denied, ask the officer for a written reason and a refusal form. You have the right to contact the Serbian embassy in Brussels (or the consulate in Luxembourg) for assistance. Do not argue — stay calm and request the paperwork.
