Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid only for the length of your stay in Panama. Airlines sometimes enforce a 6-month validity rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Panama
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at Tocumen Airport. Have a printed or digital copy of your outbound flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and phone number. Officers rarely ask, but it speeds things up if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing at least $500 USD available. Panama doesn't enforce a fixed minimum, but having proof avoids delays.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires within 6 months of your arrival date, you will be denied boarding. No exceptions.
No visa needed, but have proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Tocumen sometimes ask for a return or onward ticket. A screenshot on your phone is fine, but have it ready before you reach the counter.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents before you fly
Check your passport validity (6+ months from landing), book your return/onward ticket, and save a screenshot of your first night's hotel booking. If you want insurance, get it online before you leave.
2
Arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY)
Most flights from Serbia connect through Europe or the US. At PTY, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are two queues: one for Panamanians/residents, one for foreigners. Join the foreigners queue.
3
Present your passport and supporting documents
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask for your return ticket and hotel booking. Answer clearly: purpose of visit (tourism), length of stay (up to 90 days). They'll stamp your passport and you're in.
4
Collect your luggage and clear customs
After immigration, grab your bags from the carousel. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel. Red channel is for goods over $500 or restricted items.
