Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Armenia. Border officers at Yerevan's Zvartnots Airport check this at the passport control booth — if your passport expires before you leave, they will deny entry.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Armenia
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking out of Armenia ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host in Armenia. Border officers rarely ask for it, but having it ready avoids delays if they do.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have access to at least $50 per day of your stay, either in cash or on a card. Officers at Yerevan airport may ask to see this if you look like you might overstay or work illegally.Recommended
Visa-free for 180 days
Russian citizens can stay in Armenia for up to 180 days per year without any visa. No application, no fee, no prior approval. Just a valid passport.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Armenia. Airlines check this before boarding. If your passport expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book a refundable onward ticket and first night accommodation. Download or print confirmations. Get travel insurance and a local eSIM if you want data on arrival.
2
Arrive at Yerevan airport or land border
At Zvartnots International Airport (EVN) or any land crossing (e.g., Upper Lars on the Georgia border), join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready.
3
Present passport and answer questions
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: purpose of visit, length of stay, where you're staying. Answer briefly and honestly. They rarely ask for additional documents, but have your onward ticket and accommodation ready just in case.
4
Receive entry stamp and proceed
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and permitted stay (up to 180 days). Collect your passport and go to baggage claim or exit. No fees, no forms.

Frequently asked questions

No. The 180-day visa-free entry is for tourism, business visits, and short-term stays only. If you want to work, you need a work visa or residence permit. Working on a tourist entry is illegal and can get you deported.
No, the visa-free stay is not extendable. You must leave Armenia before the 180 days are up. If you want to stay longer, you need to apply for a temporary residence permit (usually valid for 1 year) at the Passport and Visa Department in Yerevan before your 180 days expire.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll face a fine of 50,000 AMD (about $130) and may be banned from re-entering Armenia for up to 1 year. Always leave on time or apply for a residence permit before your stay ends.
No. Airlines and border guards enforce the 6-month validity rule strictly. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding or entry. Renew your passport before traveling.
No. Armenia does not require registration for short-term visitors. Just keep your passport with the entry stamp as proof of legal stay.
Yes. The main land crossing is at Upper Lars (on the Georgia-Russia border, then into Armenia). Russian citizens can cross without a visa. The process is the same as at the airport — passport check, stamp, and you're in.
As of 2026, there are no COVID-19 testing or vaccination requirements for entry. No health declarations needed. Just standard travel.
