Russian passport holders need an e-visa to enter the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Apply online before you travel. The process is straightforward if you have your documents ready. As of 2026, the e-visa is the standard entry method for tourism and short business visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your full stay
At least 6 months validity beyond your entry date. Minimum 1 blank page for the entry stamp. Airlines may deny boarding if validity is too close.Required
Return or onward ticket
Officers check this regularly
A confirmed flight out of the country. Immigration may ask to see this — have a screenshot ready on your phone. An onward ticket from a neighbouring country also works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel name or address
A hotel booking confirmation, or the address of where you are staying. The arrival form often asks for this. A Booking.com or Airbnb confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Rarely checked
Immigration officers may ask you to demonstrate sufficient funds for your stay. A credit card or bank statement usually suffices.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) upon arrival. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport (which costs money and time).
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your e-visa, passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation on your phone and in the cloud. If you lose your printed copies, you can show digital versions at immigration.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the e-visa online
Go to the official DR Congo visa portal (visa.gouv.cd) and fill out the application. Upload a digital passport photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online with a credit card. Processing usually takes 3-5 business days.
2
Receive and print your e-visa
Once approved, you'll get the e-visa by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need to show it at check-in and upon arrival.
3
Arrive at N'Djili International Airport (FIH) in Kinshasa
After landing, follow signs to immigration. Have your passport, printed e-visa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp you in. The process is usually quick — 10-15 minutes if you have everything.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, go to baggage claim, then customs. There's no separate arrival declaration form to fill out. Once through, you're free to enter.

Frequently asked questions

Typically 3-5 business days, but it can take up to a week. Apply at least 10 days before your trip to be safe. There's no expedited option.
The fee varies depending on the type of visa (single entry, multiple entry, etc.). As of 2026, a single-entry tourist e-visa costs around $100-150 USD. Check the official portal for the exact amount.
No, the e-visa is not extendable. You must leave before it expires. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to apply for a different visa type before traveling.
Yes, a yellow fever vaccination is required for entry. You'll need to show the certificate (the 'yellow card') at immigration. Get it at least 10 days before travel.
The e-visa is valid for entry at all official border points, including land borders. The process is the same — show your printed e-visa and passport. However, land border crossings can be slower and less predictable.
The standard e-visa is for single entry. If you need multiple entries (e.g., for business trips), you can apply for a multiple-entry e-visa on the same portal. The fee is higher.
Rejections are rare if you provide correct documents. If rejected, you'll get a reason (e.g., missing info, passport validity issue). You can reapply with corrected details. There's no appeal process.
