Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply online before travel
You need an eVisa to enter Cameroon. Apply at the official eVisa portal, upload your passport scan and a digital photo, and pay the fee online. Processing takes 3–5 business days — do not book flights until you receive the approval email.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your planned departure from Cameroon. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of exit from Cameroon
Immigration officers at Yaoundé and Douala airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot of your booking ready — they may also check that the ticket is within your eVisa validity.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you are staying. A hotel confirmation email or a letter from your host with their address and phone number works. If you are staying with friends, have their contact details written down.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
You may be asked to show cash, a bank statement, or a credit card. Have at least 200,000 CFA francs (about $330 USD) or the equivalent in a major currency. ATMs are scarce outside major cities.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate at immigration. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on the spot at your own expense.
Local currency and cash
Cameroon uses the Central African CFA franc (XAF). Credit cards are accepted only in major hotels and restaurants in Yaoundé and Douala. Carry enough cash in CFA for taxis, markets, and smaller towns.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the official Cameroon eVisa website (evisacameroon.com). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days.
2
Receive and save your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. Immigration at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport or Douala International Airport will ask to see it.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Have your passport, eVisa printout, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. At immigration, you'll queue at the 'Foreign Passports' counter. Hand over your documents, get your passport stamped, and you're in.
