Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in the Dominican Republic. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from the Dominican Republic
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at passport control. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone showing your flight out of the country.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number. Officers may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself during your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card ready to demonstrate you have enough money for your trip. There is no fixed minimum amount, but showing at least $100 USD per day of stay is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive. Airlines check this before boarding — if your passport expires sooner, you won't be allowed to fly.
Extension is straightforward
If you need more than 30 days, visit the immigration office in Santo Domingo or Puerto Plata. The extension costs about 2,500 DOP and takes a few hours. Do it before your initial 30 days expire.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Dominican airport
When you land at Punta Cana, Santo Domingo, or Puerto Plata, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). Join the queue for foreign passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport and usually ask nothing more than 'How long are you staying?' Answer honestly. The whole process takes 5-15 minutes.
2
Complete the E-Ticket (if applicable)
Some airlines or airports may ask for an electronic entry form (E-Ticket) before boarding. Check with your airline 24 hours before departure. If required, fill it online and save the QR code to your phone.
3
Exit immigration
When leaving the Dominican Republic, go through 'Migración' again. No special forms needed. Just hand over your passport, they'll stamp you out, and you're done. Keep your return ticket handy in case they ask.
