Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in Serbia. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Serbian law, but airlines may enforce a 3-month validity rule — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Serbia
Border officers routinely ask for a confirmed return or onward ticket. A printed or digital copy of your flight booking showing departure within 30 days is sufficient.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may request a hotel reservation, rental agreement, or a notarized letter from your host in Serbia. Have a printed copy or a digital version on your phone ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Officers can ask for evidence of at least €50 per day of stay. A bank statement, credit card, or cash in euros or Serbian dinars works.Recommended
6-month passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines check this before you board. If your passport has less than 6 months left, you won't be allowed to fly to Serbia. Renew early.
Keep a copy of your passport and return ticket
Serbian police can ask for ID at any time, especially in Belgrade or near the borders. A photo on your phone is usually accepted, but a printed copy is safer.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
Whether you fly into Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport or cross by land from Hungary, Croatia, or elsewhere, join the queue for non-EU/non-Schengen passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents to the officer
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly. If asked, show your return ticket and accommodation booking on your phone.
3
Receive entry stamp
The officer stamps your passport with the date of entry and the allowed stay (usually 30 days). Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the dates are correct.
4
Keep documents handy during your stay
Carry a copy of your passport and return ticket while in Serbia. Police can ask for ID at any time, especially in Belgrade or near borders.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is strictly 30 days. Extensions are not available for visa-free visitors. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave Serbia (even for a day) and re-enter, but border officers may question frequent back-to-back visits. For longer stays, apply for a temporary residence permit at a Serbian embassy before traveling.
No. Transit through Serbia (staying airside or leaving the airport for a short connection) is also visa-free for up to 30 days. Same rules apply — valid passport and onward ticket.
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or entry by Serbian border police. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
No. Only international passports (with Latin-script personal details) are accepted. Internal Russian passports are not recognized for international travel.
If you stay in a hotel, they register you automatically. If staying in a private apartment, your host must register you with the local police within 24 hours. If you're in a rental, ask the host to do this — it's their responsibility, but you can be fined if it's not done.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or transit only. Any paid work requires a work visa or permit arranged before arrival. Remote work for a foreign company is generally tolerated but technically not covered by visa-free rules.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll face a fine (around 5,000–50,000 RSD, roughly €40–€425 depending on the duration) and may be banned from re-entering Serbia for up to a year. Always leave on time.
