Apply at the Slovak embassy or consulate
You need a Schengen visa before traveling to Slovakia. Apply at the Slovak embassy or consulate in your country of residence. Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned departure from Schengen area
Your passport must be valid for at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen zone. It must have been issued within the last 10 years. Carry a copy of the bio-data page separately in case of loss.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of confirmed departure from Schengen area
Border officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you leave the Schengen zone before your visa expires. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight, train, or bus booking ready. Airlines also check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter for entire stay
Immigration may ask for confirmed accommodation covering every night of your stay. A hotel booking confirmation or a notarized invitation letter from a host in Slovakia works. Keep a printed copy with your travel documents.Recommended
Proof of funds

Have bank statements or a credit card showing sufficient funds for your stay. The Slovak authorities expect around €56 per day of stay. Cash, traveler's checks, or a prepaid card also count.Recommended
Visa required — apply well in advance
Russian passport holders cannot enter Slovakia without a pre-approved Schengen visa. Processing can take 15–45 days, so start your application at least a month before your planned travel.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa at the Slovak embassy
Book an appointment at the Slovak embassy or consulate in Moscow or the consulate in Saint Petersburg. Submit your application, passport, photos, travel insurance, flight itinerary, accommodation bookings, and proof of funds. Pay the €80 visa fee (€40 for children 6–12). Processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 30 or 45 days if more checks are needed.
2
Wait for visa approval
After submission, you'll get a receipt with a tracking number. You can check the status online. Once approved, your passport will be returned with the visa sticker. Collect it in person or arrange courier delivery.
3
Prepare for border entry
At the airport or land border, present your passport with the visa, return ticket, and accommodation proof. The officer may ask about your itinerary, funds, and insurance. Answer clearly. They'll stamp your passport with the entry date and allowed stay (usually up to 90 days within 180 days).
