Russian passport holders need a visa to enter Taiwan in 2026. You must apply and receive approval before you travel — there is no visa-on-arrival option. Start the process at least a month before your trip to allow for processing time.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Visitor visa required
Apply for a visitor visa at the Taiwan Bureau of Consular Affairs before travel. Processing takes 5–7 working days for most nationalities. Submit your application online at the official eVisa portal, then attend an in-person interview at the nearest Taiwan diplomatic mission.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Taiwan. Taiwan does not require 6 months of remaining validity beyond your departure date, but some airlines may enforce this — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers at Taoyuan Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight itinerary ready. A bus or ferry ticket to mainland China also satisfies this requirement.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Taiwan. Immigration rarely asks for it, but having it ready avoids delays at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement showing at least 1,000 USD equivalent, or carry cash in USD or TWD. Officers rarely check this for short tourist stays, but it helps if you look underprepared.Recommended
No visa-on-arrival for Russian passport holders
You must get a visa before you fly. Arriving without one means immediate denial of entry and a return flight at your own expense.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Taiwan, not from your departure date. If it expires sooner, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visa online
Go to the Taiwan Visa Application System (visawebapp.boca.gov.tw) and fill out the application. Upload a digital passport photo, a copy of your passport data page, and your travel itinerary. Pay the fee (around 1,600 TWD for a single-entry visa). Processing takes 5–10 business days.
2
Receive and print your visa
Once approved, you'll receive a visa document via email. Print it out or save a clear copy on your phone. You'll need to show it at immigration in Taiwan.
3
Prepare your documents for arrival
Before you land at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) or Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH), have your passport, visa, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. Keep them in your hand luggage, not checked bags.
4
Go through immigration
At the airport, join the 'Foreigners' queue. Hand over your passport and visa. The officer may ask about your plans — be ready to say how long you're staying and where. They'll stamp your passport and you're in.

Frequently asked questions

Processing usually takes 5–10 business days after you submit the online application. Apply at least 3–4 weeks before your trip to be safe.
No, the standard visitor visa is not extendable. You must leave Taiwan before the visa expires. If you need more time, you'd have to apply for a different visa type before traveling.
It's not a formal requirement, but immigration officers may ask how you'll support yourself during your stay. Having a credit card or a bank statement on your phone is a good idea.
You will be denied entry and put on the next flight back. There is no visa-on-arrival for Russian passport holders. You must have an approved visa before you travel.
Yes, eSIMs from providers like Airalo work well in Taiwan. They activate as soon as you land, so you have data immediately for maps, translation, and messaging. No need to queue at the airport SIM counter.
It's not a strict requirement for the visa application, but it's strongly recommended. Medical costs in Taiwan can be high — a hospital stay for a few days can easily cost several hundred dollars. Insurance covers that.
You can reapply, but first check the reason for rejection (the email will state it). Common reasons include incomplete documents, insufficient funds, or unclear travel plans. Fix the issue and reapply. There's no official limit on re-applications.
