Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
You need an eVisa to enter the UAE. Apply through the ICA Smart Services portal at smartservices.ica.gov.ae. Processing takes 2–5 working days, and you must print the approval letter to show at check-in and immigration.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
6 months validity required
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry into the UAE. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for all visitors
Immigration officers at Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return or onward ticket ready. Without one, you risk being refused entry.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host address
You may be asked where you are staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their Emirates ID number. Immigration has denied entry to travellers who could not provide a clear address.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Officers can request proof you can support yourself during your stay. Carry a recent bank statement or enough cash/cards to cover accommodation and expenses. There is no fixed minimum, but AED 3,000–5,000 is a safe buffer.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter the UAE. If it's even a day short, your eVisa will be rejected. Check your expiry date before applying.
Keep digital copies of everything
Save your eVisa PDF, flight tickets, and hotel booking on your phone. Print paper backups too. Airline check-in staff and immigration officers will ask to see them.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the UAE's official smart services portal (smartservices.ica.gov.ae) and fill out the eVisa application. You'll need your passport details, a digital photo, and your travel dates. Pay the fee online. Processing usually takes 3–5 working days.
2
Receive and print your eVisa
Once approved, you'll get a PDF by email. Print a paper copy and also save it on your phone. You'll need it at airline check-in and at UAE immigration.
3
Arrive at a UAE airport
You can enter through Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, or any other UAE international airport. Go to the immigration counter for foreign passport holders. Hand over your passport and printed eVisa. The officer will stamp you in.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. There's no additional paperwork or health declaration required on arrival.
