Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport must be valid for the entire period you plan to stay in DR Congo. Airlines at Kigali International Airport check this before boarding. No minimum validity beyond your stay is required by DR Congo immigration, but carry a photocopy of the bio page just in case.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from DR Congo
Immigration officers at N'djili Airport and Goma's Goma International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. Airlines also enforce this at check-in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host in DR Congo. Border officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A simple booking confirmation works.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have at least $200 USD in cash or a credit card statement ready. DR Congo is a cash-heavy country — USD is widely accepted. Immigration rarely checks this for Rwandan passport holders, but it's safer to have it.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must show a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) at the border. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated on the spot — which is risky. Get the shot at least 10 days before you travel.
Keep your documents handy
Immigration officers at N'djili Airport and land borders can be thorough. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready in your hand — not buried in your bag.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at the border
At N'djili Airport in Kinshasa or any land border (like Goma or Bukavu), go to the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents to immigration officer
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer will check your passport validity, blank page, and may ask for your return ticket and accommodation.
3
Receive entry stamp
If everything is in order, the officer stamps your passport with a visa-free entry. No fee is charged. The process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, collect your bags from baggage claim (if flying) and proceed through customs. There's no arrival declaration form to fill out.
