Rwandan passport holders need an eVisa to enter Lesotho. Apply entirely online before you travel, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Since 2026, this is the standard entry method for tourism or short business visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for a Lesotho eVisa at the official Immigration Department portal. Processing takes 3–5 business days. Print the approval letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Maseru will stamp the visa on arrival.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Rwandan passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Lesotho does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule — your passport just needs to be valid for the duration of your stay.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Moshoeshoe I International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight out of Lesotho ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel reservation confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Lesotho. Border officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card showing access to at least 5,000 ZAR (or equivalent in USD) for your stay. Immigration may ask if you look underfunded.Recommended
eVisa is mandatory — no exceptions
Rwandan passport holders cannot enter Lesotho without an approved eVisa. There is no visa on arrival, and border officials will not make exceptions. Apply online at least a week before your trip.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Lesotho, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, renew it before applying for the eVisa.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to the Lesotho eVisa portal (usually evisalesotho.com). Fill in your personal and passport details, upload a passport-style photo and a scan of your passport bio page. Pay the fee (around $50–$75 depending on processing speed) with a credit or debit card. You'll get a confirmation email immediately.
2
Wait for approval
Processing takes 3–5 business days for standard applications. Check your email (including spam folder) for the approval letter. If you're in a rush, some portals offer expedited processing for an extra fee.
3
Print or save the eVisa
Once approved, you'll receive a PDF. Print a copy and also save it on your phone. You'll show this at check-in and at immigration in Maseru.
4
Arrive at Moshoeshoe I International Airport
After landing, head to the immigration counter. Present your passport, eVisa approval, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation. The officer may ask a few questions (purpose of visit, length of stay). Answer clearly. You'll get an entry stamp — usually valid for up to 30 days.
