Your Rwandan passport must be valid for the full duration of your stay in Monaco. Schengen rules do not require 6 months beyond departure, but airlines may enforce it — check with your carrier before flying.Required

Proof of onward travel
Immigration officers at Schengen entry points routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready showing your departure from the Schengen area within the visa validity period.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, rental agreement, or a signed letter from your host in Monaco. Immigration may ask for this during the visa application or at the border.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a sponsor letter showing at least €65 per day of stay. This is a standard Schengen requirement — officers may ask for it at entry.Recommended
Apply early — slots fill up fast
French embassy appointment slots in Kigali can be limited, especially during peak travel seasons (June–September, December). Book your appointment at least 6–8 weeks before your planned departure.
Monaco has no airport — you enter via France
The nearest major airport is Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) in France. From there, take a bus (€22), train (€4–6), or helicopter (€150–200) to Monaco. French border police check passports at the airport — have your visa and documents ready.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a Schengen visa at the French embassy
Monaco does not issue its own visas. You must apply for a short-stay Schengen visa (type C) at the French embassy or consulate in Rwanda or your country of residence. Book an appointment online, fill out the application form, and submit your documents in person.
2
Prepare your documents
Gather your passport (valid 6+ months), completed visa form, two passport-sized photos, travel insurance, flight itinerary, hotel bookings, bank statements, and proof of employment or leave. Make copies of everything.
3
Attend the visa interview
Show up at the French embassy on your appointment date. The officer will review your documents, ask about your trip, and take your biometrics (fingerprints and photo). Expect to pay the visa fee (around €80 for adults, €40 for children).
4
Wait for processing
Standard processing takes 15 calendar days, but can extend to 45 days during peak season. Track your application online using the reference number from your receipt.
5
Collect your passport
Once approved, your passport will have a visa sticker. Check the dates and validity carefully. If rejected, you'll get a letter explaining why — you can appeal within 30 days.
6
Enter Monaco
Monaco has no border controls of its own — you enter via France (by road, train, or helicopter from Nice). French border police may check your passport and visa. Have your return ticket and accommodation details ready.
