Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Apply before travel
Apply for an Azerbaijan eVisa at evisa.gov.az. The process takes about 3 working days and costs $25 USD. Print the approved eVisa and carry it with your passport — border officers will scan the QR code.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your Swedish passport needs at least 3 months of validity beyond your planned departure from Azerbaijan. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers ask for a confirmed onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a notarized invitation letter from your host in Azerbaijan. Officers occasionally ask for this, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Have a bank statement or credit card showing access to at least $50 USD per day of your trip. Officers rarely check this for Swedish passport holders, but it helps if questioned.Recommended
eVisa is tied to your passport number
If you renew your passport after getting the eVisa, the visa becomes invalid. You'll need to apply again with the new passport number.
No visa on arrival for Swedish passport holders
You must apply for the eVisa before you travel. There is no visa-on-arrival option at Baku airport or any land border.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for your eVisa online
Go to https://evisa.gov.az/en/ and fill in your passport details, travel dates, and contact info. Pay the fee (around $20 USD) with a credit card. You'll get a confirmation email with a reference number.
2
Wait for approval
Processing takes up to 3 business days. Check your email (including spam) for the eVisa PDF. It's valid for 90 days from the date of issue, so don't apply too early.
3
Prepare your documents for travel
Print the eVisa or save it on your phone. Also have your passport, return ticket, and hotel booking ready. Keep a screenshot of your onward flight — immigration at Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport may ask to see it.
4
Arrive in Azerbaijan and go through immigration
At Baku airport, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Hand over your passport and eVisa (printed or digital). The officer will scan the QR code, stamp your passport, and let you through. It usually takes 2–5 minutes.

No. The eVisa is valid for a single entry and a maximum stay of 30 days. You cannot extend it. If you need to stay longer, you'd have to leave and re-enter with a new visa.
Both work. Most travellers show the PDF on their phone. But printing a copy is a good backup in case your battery dies or the network is slow. Immigration officers scan the QR code from the document.
You'll be denied boarding or entry. Renew your passport before applying for the eVisa. The 6-month validity is counted from your date of entry into Azerbaijan, not your departure date.
Yes, the eVisa is valid for entry at all international border crossings — airports, land borders, and seaports. Just make sure you have the same passport you used for the application.
