Spain entry requirements for Sweden passport holders
Swedish passport holders don't need a visa for short trips to Spain. From 2026, you can travel freely in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Your passport must be valid at least 6 months from your entry date.
Entry requirements
| Requirement | Details | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport Must be valid for the duration of your stay | Your Swedish passport only needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Spain. No 6-month rule applies for Swedish citizens entering the Schengen zone. Airlines at Arlanda and Kastrup will check this before boarding. | Required |
| Return or onward ticket Proof of departure from the Schengen area | Immigration at Madrid-Barajas and Barcelona-El Prat routinely asks for proof of onward travel. A return flight to Sweden, a flight to a non-Schengen country, or a train ticket to Morocco all count. Budget airlines like Ryanair and Vueling check this at check-in. | Required |
| Proof of accommodation Hotel booking or host invitation | Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from a friend/family member with their Spanish ID number. Border officers rarely ask for it for Swedish passport holders, but having it ready avoids delays. | Recommended |
| Proof of funds Show you can support yourself during your stay | Spain officially requires €100 per person per day (minimum €900 total). A bank statement or credit card with available limit works. In practice, Swedish passport holders are almost never asked, but keep a screenshot of your bank app just in case. | Recommended |
