Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Nigeria eVisa
Apply for a Nigeria eVisa at the Nigeria Immigration Service portal before you travel. The online form asks for your passport details, travel dates, and a recent photo. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days, and you receive an approval letter by email — print it and carry it with your passport.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Swedish passport needs at least 6 months of remaining validity from your date of entry into Nigeria. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Nigeria
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket before they stamp you in. Have a printed or digital copy ready — a flight booking confirmation works, not just a reservation number.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Carry a printed hotel confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host in Nigeria. Immigration may ask where you are staying, and having a clear address speeds things up.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement or enough cash (around $500–$1,000 equivalent) to show you can cover your stay. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, you need to show it on the spot.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter Nigeria. Without it, you may be denied entry or forced to get vaccinated at the airport — at your own cost.
Keep your eVisa printout handy
Immigration officers at Lagos and Abuja airports will ask for a printed copy of your eVisa approval. A digital copy on your phone is not accepted. Print it before you leave Sweden.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to portal.immigration.gov.ng, create an account, fill in the application form, upload your passport photo and passport scan, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email — print it.
2
Pack your documents
Before you leave Sweden, gather your printed eVisa approval, passport, return ticket, accommodation confirmation, and travel insurance. Keep them in your carry-on.
3
Arrive at Lagos or Abuja airport
At the airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Arrivals'. Join the queue for 'Foreign Passports'. Have your passport, eVisa printout, and return ticket ready. The officer will check your documents, take your fingerprints, and stamp your passport. The process usually takes 10–20 minutes.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After immigration, proceed to baggage claim, then customs. If you have nothing to declare, walk through the green channel. You're now in Nigeria.
