Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for duration of stay
Your Swedish passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Serbia. Serbia does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date, but airlines may still enforce this — check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Serbia
Immigration officers at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport routinely ask for proof of onward travel. Have a printed or digital copy of your return flight or a ticket to your next destination ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A hotel confirmation or a letter from a host with their address and phone number covers this.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Serbia can ask you to show you have enough cash, cards, or bank statements to cover your trip. Around €50 per day is a safe benchmark — have a recent bank statement or credit card handy.Recommended
No arrival declaration needed
Unlike some neighbouring countries, Serbia does not require you to fill out an arrival card or register online before travel. Just show your passport at the border.
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Airlines and border officers check the 6-month validity rule. If your passport expires within 6 months of your entry date, you will be denied boarding or entry. No exceptions.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare documents before travel
Check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book a return/onward ticket. Save a screenshot of your first night's accommodation. Optionally arrange travel insurance and an eSIM for connectivity.
2
Arrive at Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport or land border
At Belgrade Airport, follow signs to 'Non-EU Passports' queue. Hand over your passport. The officer may ask your purpose of stay and how long you're staying. Answer briefly. They'll stamp your passport — no extra forms needed.
3
Exit immigration and collect luggage
After the stamp, proceed to baggage claim (if arriving by air). Then exit into the arrivals hall. No customs declaration needed for personal items.
