Swedish passport holders can enter Tunisia without a visa for stays up to 90 days. This has been the case for years and remains unchanged in 2026. Just make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover entire stay
Your passport must be valid for the full duration of your 90-day stay. Tunisia does not require 6 months of remaining validity, but airlines may enforce it — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket out of Tunisia. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have a bank statement or credit card ready. Immigration may ask how you plan to fund your stay — 50 TND per day is a safe benchmark to show.Recommended
Passport validity is strict
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you enter Tunisia. Airlines check this before you board. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be turned away at the gate.
No visa, but have a return ticket ready
Immigration officers often ask to see a return or onward ticket. Keep a screenshot on your phone — it's the most common thing they request.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Tunis-Carthage Airport (or other entry point)
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control' (Passeport). Join the queue for non-Tunisian passports. Have your passport and return ticket ready (screenshot on phone is fine). The officer will check your passport validity, stamp it, and wave you through. The whole process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
2
Prepare your documents before the queue
While waiting, open your passport to the photo page and have your return ticket screenshot ready. If you have a hotel booking, have that ready too. This speeds things up.
3
After passport control
Collect your luggage from the carousel, then proceed through customs (green channel if nothing to declare). Exit into the arrivals hall.

Frequently asked questions

No. The visa-free stay is strictly 90 days and cannot be extended. If you want to stay longer, you'd need to leave and re-enter, but overstaying can lead to fines or a ban. Plan accordingly.
No, Swedish passport holders do not need a visa for transit. You can stay in the international transit area without a visa. If you need to leave the airport, you'll need to meet the standard visa-free entry requirements (valid passport, return ticket).
You will likely be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Tunisian immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. There are no exceptions.
No, there is no official requirement to show proof of funds for Swedish passport holders. However, if you look like you might work illegally or overstay, an officer could ask. Having a credit card or a few hundred euros in cash is sensible.
No. There is no arrival declaration or online pre-registration for Swedish passport holders. Just show up with your passport and return ticket.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You may be fined (typically around 30–50 TND per day overstayed), detained, and banned from re-entering Tunisia for a period. Avoid it.
Technically, the visa-free entry is for tourism only. Remote work for a foreign employer is a grey area — it's not explicitly allowed, but many digital nomads do it. If you're caught, you could be asked to leave. For official remote work, consider a Tunisia digital nomad visa if available.
