Swedish passport holders need an eVisa to enter Uganda. The process is entirely online — you apply before you travel and receive an approval letter via email. As of 2026, the eVisa covers tourism, business, and transit visits.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
eVisa application
Uganda eVisa
Apply for your Uganda eVisa at the official portal before departure. Processing takes 2–5 business days, and you'll receive an approval letter by email. Print that letter and carry it with your passport — immigration at Entebbe will check it before stamping you in.Apply for eVisaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Uganda
Your Swedish passport needs at least two blank pages for entry and exit stamps. Uganda strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule — if your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding in Stockholm or Addis.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe routinely ask for proof of a return or onward flight. Have your booking confirmation ready — either on your phone or printed. If you're overlanding to Kenya or Rwanda, a bus ticket or vehicle registration works too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation letter
Carry a printed or digital copy of your first night's hotel booking. If staying with friends or family, a letter of invitation with their contact details and address is accepted. Immigration rarely asks, but having it avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Bank statement or cash
Have a recent bank statement showing at least $300 USD or the equivalent in cash. Uganda is cash-heavy — bring US dollars in good condition (no tears, pre-2006 series) to exchange at Forex bureaus in Kampala or Entebbe.Recommended
eVisa required — no visa on arrival
Swedish passport holders cannot get a visa on arrival in Uganda. You must apply and receive approval before you fly. Airlines will check this at check-in.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Uganda, not from your departure date. If it's close to expiring, renew it first.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for the eVisa online
Go to visas.immigration.go.ug, create an account, fill in the application, upload your passport scan and photo, and pay the fee. Processing usually takes 2–5 business days. You'll receive an approval letter by email.
2
Pack your documents
Print or save to your phone: the eVisa approval letter, your passport, return ticket, accommodation booking, and travel insurance. Keep them together in a folder or a note on your phone.
3
Arrive at Entebbe or land border
At Entebbe International Airport, follow signs to 'Immigration' after baggage claim. Hand over your passport and eVisa approval letter. The officer will stamp you in. At land borders (e.g., Busia, Malaba), the process is similar — expect a short queue.
4
Receive your entry stamp
The immigration officer will stamp your passport with the entry date and the number of days you're allowed to stay. Check the stamp before leaving the counter — if something looks off, ask immediately.
