Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Singapore passport only needs to be valid for the entire time you're in Bulgaria. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Bulgaria or Schengen area
Immigration officers at Sofia Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Border officers may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their address and contact number.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
You should be able to show you have enough cash or credit to cover your trip. There's no fixed amount, but around 50 EUR per day is a safe benchmark.Recommended
Overstay penalties are strict
Bulgaria enforces the 90-day limit strictly. Overstaying even by a day can result in a fine and a re-entry ban. Set a reminder to leave before day 90.
Bulgaria is not yet in the Schengen area
Your 90-day visa-free stay in Bulgaria is separate from the Schengen 90/180 rule. However, if you also visit Schengen countries, the total combined stay in both zones must not exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.

What happens at the border

1
Arrival at Bulgarian border
At Sofia Airport or any land border, join the 'All Passports' queue. Have your passport ready. The officer will check your passport validity, ask about your stay purpose and duration, and may request your return ticket or accommodation proof. The process usually takes 1-2 minutes.
2
Passport stamping
The officer will stamp your passport with the entry date. Verify the stamp is legible before leaving the counter. If you overstay, you risk fines or entry bans.
3
Exit from Bulgaria
When leaving, present your passport again. No exit form is needed. The officer may check that you haven't overstayed your 90-day limit.
