Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your stay
Brunei immigration strictly enforces the 6-month validity rule. If your passport expires sooner, you will be denied boarding in Singapore. Carry a photocopy of your passport bio page as backup.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Brunei
Immigration officers at Brunei International Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward ticket. A flight booking to any destination outside Brunei works — it does not need to be back to Singapore. Budget airlines check this before issuing a boarding pass.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Immigration may ask where you are staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. A simple booking printout or digital confirmation on your phone is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient cash or bank statement
Carry at least BND 500 (or equivalent in SGD, USD, or credit card limit) to cover your stay. Immigration rarely asks, but if you look under-prepared they may request proof. A bank statement from the last week works.Recommended
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Brunei, not from your departure date. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be turned away.
No extensions available
The 30-day visa-free stay cannot be extended. If you need more time, you must leave Brunei and re-enter, or apply for a visa beforehand. Overstaying leads to fines and possible bans.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Brunei International Airport (BWN) or land border
You'll join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport and boarding pass ready. The officer will check your passport validity, ask how long you're staying, and may ask for your return ticket. They'll stamp you in — usually takes 2-5 minutes.
2
Complete immigration form (if required)
Sometimes you'll be handed a small arrival card on the plane or at the counter. Fill it out with your basic details and accommodation address. Keep the departure portion safe — you'll hand it back when leaving.
3
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your bags and walk through the green 'Nothing to Declare' channel unless you have restricted items. Customs checks are rare but possible.
