Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the length of your stay in Ghana. Airlines check this at check-in — if your passport expires before you leave, you'll be denied boarding.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Ghana
Immigration officers at Kotoka International Airport routinely ask for a return or onward ticket. Have a printed or digital copy ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a printed hotel reservation or a letter of invitation from your host. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you're arriving without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or cash handy — immigration may ask how you'll fund your stay. A few hundred USD in cash or a recent statement usually satisfies them.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccine is mandatory
You must have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate (yellow card) to enter Ghana. Without it, you may be vaccinated on arrival at your own cost or denied entry. Get the shot at least 10 days before you fly.
Keep your documents handy
Immigration at Kotoka International Airport can be busy. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation address ready before you reach the counter. A phone screenshot of your booking and ticket saves time.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Kotoka International Airport (ACC)
Most travellers fly into Accra. After landing, follow signs to 'Immigration' or 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for Ghanaian citizens and foreigners — join the foreigner queue.
2
Present your passport and documents
Hand over your passport (valid 6+ months) and your return/onward ticket. The officer may ask your purpose of visit and where you're staying. Answer clearly. They'll stamp you in for up to 60 days.
3
Collect your luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, head to baggage claim. Customs is usually straightforward for personal items. If you're carrying more than $5,000 USD in cash or equivalent, you must declare it.

Yes. Ghana requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travellers over 9 months old. You'll need to show your yellow card (International Certificate of Vaccination) at immigration. Get the vaccine at least 10 days before travel.
You will likely be denied boarding by your airline or refused entry at immigration. Renew your passport before travel. There are no exceptions for Singapore passport holders.
Yes, but the same visa-free rules apply. Land borders like Aflao (from Togo) or Elubo (from Côte d'Ivoire) are open. However, immigration checks may be less consistent — carry all documents as you would at the airport.
No. Since you get visa-free entry for up to 60 days, there's no e-visa system available. If you need a longer stay, you must apply for a traditional visa at the Ghana High Commission in Singapore or another embassy.
The local currency is the Ghanaian cedi (GHS). US dollars are widely accepted at hotels and larger shops, but you'll get better rates using cedis. Bring some cash in USD or EUR and exchange at a forex bureau in Accra — avoid street changers.
