Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must cover your entire stay in Uganda
Your passport needs at least one blank page for the entry stamp. Uganda does not require 6 months of validity beyond your departure date — just enough to cover your stay. Airlines may still enforce the 6-month rule, so check with your carrier before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Uganda
Immigration officers at Entebbe Airport routinely ask for a confirmed onward or return ticket. Have a printed copy or a screenshot ready on your phone. Overland exits are less strict, but airlines will deny boarding without proof of onward travel.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Officers may ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a pre-booked hotel. A printed booking confirmation or a letter of invitation from your host works. Having it ready avoids a 10-minute delay at the counter.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Immigration can ask for evidence of sufficient funds — roughly $200 USD per day of stay. A recent bank statement or a credit card with a decent limit usually satisfies them. Cash in USD is also widely accepted.Recommended
Yellow fever vaccination is required
Uganda requires proof of yellow fever vaccination for all travelers aged 1 year and older. Carry your yellow card (International Certificate of Vaccination) with your passport. Without it, you may be denied entry or required to get vaccinated at the airport.
Travel insurance is strongly recommended
While not mandatory for entry, medical costs in Uganda can be high. A basic travel insurance policy covering medical evacuation and hospital stays is cheap insurance against a very expensive problem.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Entebbe International Airport (or land border)
Most travelers fly into Entebbe. At immigration, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, return ticket, and accommodation confirmation ready. The officer will stamp you in for up to 90 days. The process usually takes 5–15 minutes.
2
Proceed to baggage claim and customs
After immigration, collect your luggage. Customs is usually straightforward for personal items. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.
3
Exit the airport
Once through customs, you're free to exit. Taxis and ride-hailing services (e.g., Uber, Bolt) are available outside the arrivals hall.

Yes, the same visa-free policy applies at all official land border crossings, such as from Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, or South Sudan. Just present your passport and meet the same requirements.
You will likely be denied entry. The 6-month validity rule is strictly enforced. Renew your passport before traveling.
No, there is no arrival declaration required for Uganda. Just the standard immigration card given on the plane or at the border.
No, you don't need one — you get visa-free entry. But if you somehow overstay or need a different status, you can apply for a visa at the DCIC office in Kampala.
The local currency is the Ugandan shilling (UGX). Credit cards are accepted in major hotels and some restaurants in Kampala, but cash is king everywhere else. ATMs are widely available in cities.
