Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Visa application
Apply for a visitor visa
You need a visitor visa to enter Canada. Apply online through the IRCC portal — processing times vary by country, typically 2–4 weeks. Submit your application well before your travel date.Apply for visaRequired
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your Slovenian passport must be valid for the entire time you plan to stay in Canada. No minimum validity beyond your departure date is required by Canadian law, but airlines may enforce 6 months — check with your carrier.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Canada
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking showing you leave Canada before your visa expires.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation, Airbnb receipt, or a letter from your host with their address and contact info. Officers rarely ask, but having it ready avoids delays.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Have bank statements or a credit card statement showing enough funds for your stay. No fixed amount is published, but a few thousand CAD for a short trip is reasonable.Recommended
Apply early — processing can take weeks
Canadian visitor visa processing times are unpredictable. Apply at least 3 months before your intended travel date. Do not book non-refundable flights or accommodation until you have the visa in hand.
Biometrics may be required
Most applicants need to give fingerprints and a photo at a Visa Application Centre (VAC). This is an additional step and costs CAD 85. You'll get a letter with instructions after submitting your online application.

What happens at the border

1
Apply for a visitor visa online
Go to the official Canada visa website (IRCC) and complete the online application. You'll need to upload your passport scan, photo, travel history, and financial documents. Pay the fee (around CAD 100). Processing takes 2–8 weeks depending on your home country and time of year.
2
Wait for visa decision
IRCC will email you when a decision is made. If approved, you'll get a visa sticker in your passport (mailed to you or collected at a visa application centre). Do not book flights until you have the visa in hand.
3
Arrive at a Canadian port of entry
At the airport, go to the 'Visitors' queue. Hand over your passport with the visa sticker. The border officer may ask about your trip purpose, funds, and return plans. Answer honestly. They'll stamp your passport with a visitor record — check the date you must leave by.
