Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for at least the full 90 days you plan to stay in Hong Kong. Hong Kong does not enforce a strict 6-month validity rule, but airlines may ask for it at check-in.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Hong Kong
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. Have a printed or digital copy of your flight booking ready — they check this before stamping you in.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Carry a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host with their Hong Kong address. Officers rarely ask, but if they do, not having it can delay your entry.Recommended
Proof of funds
Sufficient money for your stay
Have access to at least HKD 3,000–5,000 (roughly EUR 350–600) per day of your stay. A credit card and some cash in HKD or EUR works fine — officers rarely check, but it's smart to be ready.Recommended
Overstaying is costly
If you stay beyond 90 days, you'll be fined up to HKD 50 per day and may be banned from re-entering Hong Kong for up to 5 years. Set a reminder to leave on time.
Keep your landing slip
The small white slip you get on arrival is your proof of legal entry. Keep it with your passport at all times — you'll need it when you depart.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Hong Kong International Airport
Follow signs to 'Arrivals' and then 'Immigration'. There are separate queues for Hong Kong residents and visitors. Join the 'Visitors' queue — it's clearly marked. Electronic gates (e-Channel) are for residents only, so you'll go to a manned counter.
2
Present your passport and boarding pass
Hand over your passport and boarding pass. The officer will check your passport validity, look for a blank page, and may ask about your stay — how long, where you're staying, and your return plans. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Receive entry stamp and landing slip
The officer stamps your passport with the entry date and the date you must leave (90 days later). You'll also get a small white landing slip — keep it with your passport. You'll need it when you leave.
4
Collect luggage and proceed to customs
After immigration, go to the baggage claim carousels. Then walk through the green channel if you have nothing to declare, or the red channel if you have goods over the duty-free limit. That's it — you're in Hong Kong.

You'll be denied boarding by the airline or refused entry by Hong Kong immigration. Renew your passport before you travel. The 6 months are counted from your entry date, not your departure date.

No. The visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. Any work (paid or unpaid) or study requires a proper visa or work permit. Violating this can get you deported and banned.
Report it immediately to the Hong Kong Police (any station) and get a police report. Then contact the Slovenian Embassy in Beijing or the Consulate in Hong Kong for an emergency travel document. You'll need the police report and a passport photo.
No, it's not required by law. But Hong Kong healthcare is expensive — a simple hospital visit can cost thousands of HKD. Strongly recommended to have coverage for medical emergencies and trip disruption.
