As a Slovenian passport holder, you can enter Iceland without a visa for tourism or business stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period. This rule has applied since Iceland joined the Schengen Area and continues in 2026. Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months from your date of entry.

Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Slovenian passport only needs to be valid for the duration of your stay in Iceland. Airlines may still ask for 6 months validity — check with your carrier before departure.Required
Return or onward ticket
Required for Schengen entry
Immigration officers at Keflavík will ask for proof of onward travel — a return flight or a ticket to a non-Schengen country. Budget airlines check this before boarding.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Have a hotel confirmation or a letter from your host ready. Officers occasionally ask for it, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can cover your stay
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing access to around 100 EUR per day. Iceland is expensive — officers may ask how you plan to pay for accommodation and food.Recommended
Schengen area rules apply
Your 90-day visa-free stay is shared across all 27 Schengen countries. If you spend 30 days in France and 30 in Germany, you only have 30 days left for Iceland. Keep track of your days.
Passport validity counts from entry, not departure
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you land in Iceland. If it expires sooner, you may be denied boarding by your airline.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Keflavik International Airport
After landing, follow signs to 'Passport Control'. There are separate queues for EU/EEA and non-EU passengers. As a Slovenian, you use the EU/EEA queue.
2
Present your passport
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask about your trip purpose, length of stay, and accommodation. Answer briefly and honestly.
3
Show supporting documents if asked
If requested, show your return ticket, accommodation booking, and proof of funds. Keep them easily accessible in your hand luggage.
4
Receive entry stamp
The officer will stamp your passport with the date of entry. This stamp records your 90-day allowance. Keep it safe.
5
Collect luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then through customs. No further immigration checks.
