Arrival at San Salvador International Airport (SAL)
After deplaning, follow signs to 'Migración' (Immigration). There are separate lines for Salvadoran citizens and foreigners. Join the 'Extranjeros' line. Have your passport and return ticket ready. The officer will stamp your passport with a 180-day entry. The process usually takes 5–15 minutes.

Land border crossings
If entering by land from Guatemala or Honduras, you'll go through a small immigration booth. Same requirements apply: passport with 6 months validity, return ticket proof. Cash is useful for any small fees (though entry itself is free). Expect a short wait.
