Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the duration of your stay
Your passport needs to be valid for the entire time you plan to be in Belize. Airlines check this at check-in, and Belize immigration officers will deny boarding if your passport expires before you leave.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Belize
Immigration officers routinely ask for a return or onward ticket at the border. If you don't have one, they may deny entry or require you to buy a ticket on the spot. A printed itinerary or digital boarding pass works.Recommended
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or invitation letter
Have a hotel reservation or a letter from your host ready. Officers sometimes ask where you're staying, especially if you arrive without a clear itinerary. A simple booking confirmation email is fine.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Carry a bank statement or credit card showing you have enough money for your stay. Belize doesn't publish a fixed amount, but having at least $100 USD per day in accessible funds covers most situations.Recommended
Passport validity is strictly enforced
Belize immigration checks the 6-month validity from your entry date, not your departure. If your passport expires sooner, you'll be denied boarding. Renew early.
Keep a copy of your return ticket
Immigration officers at BZE airport almost always ask for proof of onward travel. A screenshot on your phone is fine, but a printed copy is even better in case your battery dies.

What happens at the border

1
Arrive at Belize immigration
At Philip Goldson International Airport (BZE) or any land border, join the 'Foreign Passports' queue. Have your passport, boarding pass, and return ticket ready.
2
Present documents to officer
Hand over your passport and any requested documents. The officer may ask your purpose of visit, length of stay, and where you're staying. Answer clearly and briefly.
3
Get stamped in
The officer will stamp your passport with an entry date. Check the stamp before walking away — make sure the date is correct. You're usually granted up to 30 days.
4
Collect luggage and exit
After immigration, pick up your bags from the carousel, then pass through customs. If you have nothing to declare, use the green channel.

Frequently asked questions

Up to 30 days as a Slovak passport holder. If you want to stay longer, you can apply for an extension at the Immigration Department in Belmopan or Belize City before your 30 days expire.
Yes, but you must apply before your initial 30 days run out. Visit the Belize Immigration Department (Belmopan: 822-2860, Belize City: 223-5624). Extensions cost around $100 BZD (about €45) and are usually granted for another 30 days.
Only if you're arriving from a country with yellow fever risk. Slovakia is not a risk country, so you won't need it unless you've recently travelled to an endemic area.
Overstaying is taken seriously. You'll be fined $100 BZD per month (or part thereof) at the airport when you leave. In extreme cases, you could be banned from re-entering. Don't risk it — extend or leave on time.
No. Visa-free entry is for tourism, business meetings, or short visits only. For work or study, you need a proper visa or permit arranged before you travel. Contact the Belize Embassy in Vienna or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Belmopan.
Yes, but it's usually included in your airline ticket. If not, it's about $40 BZD (€18) payable in cash at the airport. Check with your airline before you fly.
If you're staying airside and not clearing immigration, you don't need a visa. But if you need to enter Belize (e.g., overnight layover), the same visa-free rules apply — up to 30 days.
