Entry requirements

RequirementDetailsStatus
Valid passport
Must be valid for the entire stay
Your Slovak passport needs to be valid for the entire time you're in France. Schengen rules don't require 6 months beyond departure, but your airline might — check with them before flying.Required
Return or onward ticket
Proof of departure from Schengen zone
Border officers at French airports routinely ask for a return or onward ticket showing you'll leave the Schengen area within 90 days. Budget airlines check this before boarding too.Required
Proof of accommodation
Hotel booking or host invitation
Immigration may ask where you're staying. Have a hotel confirmation, Airbnb booking, or a signed letter from your host with their address and contact number ready.Recommended
Proof of funds
Show you can support yourself
Officers can request evidence of sufficient funds — roughly €65 per day of your stay. A bank statement or credit card with available limit works fine.Recommended
EU citizen = fast track
At French airports, you can use the automated e-gates (if available) or the EU/EEA queue. This is usually much faster than the non-EU queue. Have your passport ready.
Passport validity counts from entry date
Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after the day you land in France. If it expires sooner, renew it before you travel — even if it's still valid for your departure date.

What happens at the border

1
Prepare your documents
Before you leave, check your passport validity (6+ months from entry date). Book your return/onward ticket and first night accommodation. Print or save digital copies of everything — including travel insurance and eSIM confirmation.
2
Arrive at the airport in France
At Paris Charles de Gaulle or Orly, follow signs for 'EU/EEA/Swiss' passport control. Since Slovakia is in the EU, you'll use the automated e-gates if available, or join the short queue for EU citizens. Have your passport ready.
3
Present your passport at border control
Hand over your passport. The officer may ask: 'How long are you staying?' and 'Where are you staying?' Answer clearly. They rarely ask for proof of funds or return ticket for EU citizens, but have them ready just in case.
4
Collect your luggage and exit
After passport control, proceed to baggage claim, then customs (green channel for most). You're free to enter France.

Frequently asked questions

No. Slovakia is an EU member, so you can travel to France visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period for tourism, business, or family visits.
Up to 90 days within any rolling 180-day period. This is the standard Schengen area rule. If you want to stay longer, you'll need to apply for a long-stay visa or residence permit.
Generally no. The visa-free stay cannot be extended for tourism. If you have exceptional circumstances (e.g., medical emergency), you can apply for a temporary extension at the local préfecture, but it's rarely granted.
Your valid passport (6+ months validity). They may also ask for your return ticket and proof of accommodation. Having travel insurance is smart but not mandatory for entry.
Not legally required for EU citizens entering France. But it's strongly recommended — medical costs in France are high, and a basic policy covers hospital stays, repatriation, and lost luggage.
Technically, the visa-free stay is for tourism and business visits (meetings, conferences). Remote work for a foreign employer is a grey area. France doesn't have a specific digital nomad visa, so if you're working for a non-French company, it's usually tolerated for short stays, but not officially allowed. For longer-term remote work, consider a long-stay visa.
Overstaying is a violation of Schengen rules. You could be fined, banned from re-entering the Schengen area for up to 3 years, or both. If you realise you'll overstay, contact the local préfecture immediately to discuss options.
